TENS Support for Labor

I’m trained in the use of TENS for labor support.

TENS, or transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, is a small, handheld device that uses gentle electrical pulses through pads placed on your back. Many birthing people use it as a natural comfort tool during labor, especially in early and active labor.

TENS can help by providing a distracting, rhythmic sensation and may support your body’s natural pain-coping process. You stay in control of the intensity, and it can be adjusted as contractions change.

As your doula, I can help you understand how TENS works, when it may be helpful, and how to use it safely as part of your comfort plan.

Why families like TENS

It is drug-free, non-invasive, portable, and completely controlled by you. It can also be used alongside other comfort tools like movement, counter pressure, breathing and position changes.

A quick note

Like any labor comfort measure, TENS isn’t a one size fits all. Some people love having it as a part of their labor tool kit while others find they prefer different forms of support. There are also certain medical situations where TENS is not recommended. We’ll discuss your preferences, health history and birth goals to decide whether TENS is something you’d like to incorporate into your labor experience.
